Meet the Team

Flora Christin

Born and raised in Indonesia, Flora’s path as a female surfer has been challenging to say the least. She has spent years dedicating her time to progressing in a largely male dominated sport, and has found much reward in becoming a highly successful free surfer despite the hurdles. After 3 years competing internationally, Flora now dedicates most of her time to traveling to world class waves as a sponsored surfer. Following this path has been a dream that Flora is grateful for every day, and now she feels a deep inspiration to help and teach others. Surfing has given Flora so much and now it is time to give back.

“Join us for an unforgettable experience in one of Indonesia’s most iconic surf destinations. We can’t wait to share waves and laughter with you ”

- Flora

Deni Pirdaus

Deni Pirdaus aka Deni Blackboy is arguably Indonesia’s most stylish longboarder. He definitely has dark skin from spending too much time in the water.

The 23-year-old lives in the small Javanese fishing village of Batu Karas and has made a name for himself for riding boards with one fin, hanging his toes on some absolutely dreamy peelers around Indonesia almost everyday.

Deni is a Deus team rider and a bird lover. Now he’s ready to share with you how to fully embody the knee-high and firing lifestyle of longboarding.

Dean Permana

Dean went from surfing on a piece of old wooden board to become the bronze medal winner of Sea Games 2019 - it is hard not to notice Dean Permana in the water as he dances to the nose of his single fin. His smooth and classic style will make you smile.

Dean’s achievement did not come easy. Passion, hard work, dedication, and loyalty to his village Batu Karas is how he think he became a successful surfer. His work doesn’t stop here, from 2020 Dean has been busy coaching all the Batu Karas grommets, organising local surf competitions, and sharing his experience to get the kids where he is now or even better. And now he is bringing his experience to the Flora Retreat x Hangfive in Batukaras, the village where he was born and raised.

FAQ’s

Q. Do I need to bring my own longboard?

A. We recommend that you bring your own board if you have one. This will help you progress on the board you are normally surfing on and are used to. However, if you cannot bring a board, we will provide a board free of charge. Please let us know in advance if you will need us to organize one for you.

Q. Do I need to be able to ride a longboard to join the retreat?

A. You do not need to know how to ride a longboard to join the retreat but some basic skills are necessary. This includes catching your own waves (without being pushed) and popping up.

Q. What should I bring?

A. Your surfing gear! Swimsuits, sunscreen, zinc. A reusable water bottle as we may be spending long hours in the sun when surfing. A yoga mat if you would prefer to use your own, and a raincoat or poncho may be handy as the weather in Indonesia can sometimes be unpredictable!

Q. How do I secure my booking?

A. Please fill out the contact form below or contact us via direct message. We will reply with more information and will request a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure your booking.

Q. How does the current Covid-19 situation affect the Retreat?

A. At the moment it appears that there are no issues that will affect the retreat from going ahead. However, due to international travel restrictions we are currently only accepting guests that are already in Indonesia. We look forward to welcoming overseas guests in the near future when travel bans are lifted.
